The Program

The 800AJ puts 80 feet of platform height under an articulating knuckle and jib. That combination is rarer in the market than the 80-foot telescopic class and it commands more on the used market, but the jobs it solves are different from what the 800S handles. Where the 800S reaches straight out and up to place a crew at height, the 800AJ reaches up, then bends over, under, or around the obstacle that stands between the machine and the work. High-rise facade work with overhangs, industrial structures with piping that cuts across the access path, and bridge inspection on structures with irregular geometry are where the 800AJ earns its keep.

The machine runs 4WD diesel with rough-terrain tires. It weighs around 43,000 pounds, heavier than the comparable-height telescopic because the articulating mechanism adds structure and ballast to maintain stability at full extension. Transport typically fits on a standard lowboy in most states without permit requirements, though this varies by jurisdiction and configuration. Platform capacity is 500 pounds restricted and 1,000 pounds unrestricted, consistent with JLG's large-boom platform ratings.

Pricing on used 800AJ units reflects the machine's capabilities. Low-hour examples in good condition regularly list above $120,000. Mid-hour machines somewhere in the $80k–$110k band appear in the dealer-certified market. New machines are substantially more. Our program handles the full range from $50,000 on up. Short-doc to about $400,000, three months of statements, short application, B and C credit welcome, roughly two weeks to close.

Platform height of 80 feet. Working height of 86 feet. The articulating knuckle sits between the lower and upper boom sections, allowing the upper section to swing above and over obstacles while the lower section is raised. The jib above the knuckle adds a secondary articulation point, giving the operator even finer control over platform placement at the top of the reach envelope.

The practical effect: on a job where a structural beam, a parapet, or a mechanical system cuts across the direct access path to the work face at 75 feet, the 800AJ can position above the obstruction and come down on the far side. The 800S telescopic cannot. It would require repositioning the whole machine to a different setup point, which burns time and sometimes is not possible because the alternative pad does not exist.

Horizontal outreach on the 800AJ is approximately 50 feet with the boom in its typical extended position. That outreach is somewhat less than the telescopic 800S at similar height, a trade for the articulation capability. For jobs where both outreach and up-and-over access are required, operators sometimes use both machine types on the same project, which is a use case we see in complex structural and mechanical jobs.

Facade restoration firms working on occupied high-rises use the 800AJ because the articulation lets them reach over the architectural setbacks and window details that make mid-floor access complicated on older buildings. Window cleaning and facade restoration contractors are a consistent buyer category for this machine. The work is often contracted annually on the same buildings, which supports ownership over rental.

Bridge inspection and maintenance firms use it for the same reason: bridge structures have inspection points that a straight boom cannot reach without positioning the machine in traffic lanes or on surfaces where the straight boom's geometry does not work. The articulation solves the access problem without requiring lane closures or barge-mounted alternatives.

Industrial and plant maintenance crews handling process vessels, reactors, and heat exchangers at 70 to 80 feet run the 800AJ when the structure's layout creates access angles that a straight boom cannot navigate. The machine earns its price premium in reduced setup time on these complex jobs.

Rental yards that serve a mixed construction and industrial maintenance market add the 800AJ to their fleet because the demand comes from multiple buyer segments and the machine rents at a premium over the standard 80-foot telescopic. Lower volume, higher daily rate, still a sound unit economics case.

A new 800AJ gives you full warranty, current telematics, and a Tier 4 Final engine. It also comes with a high sticker price that can exceed $200,000 depending on configuration. For a company that will run the machine heavily and cannot afford unplanned downtime, new iron makes the calculation simple: higher payment, lower maintenance variance.

A used 800AJ at $95,000 with 3,500 hours is a different calculation. The payment is meaningfully lower, but the machine's history matters. A machine that ran light duty in a rental fleet and was maintained on schedule is very different from one that ran hard on a single construction site with deferred maintenance. A pre-purchase inspection by a JLG-certified technician is money well spent at this price level.

We fund both. Used boom lift financing runs the same short-doc process as new up to $400,000. We do not apply a blanket rate penalty to used deals. Condition, price relative to market value, and business cash flow are the real underwriting factors, not the age of the machine.

The JLG 600AJ covers similar articulating capability at 60 feet of platform height for a lower price and lighter machine. If the jobs consistently top out below 70 feet, the 600AJ may be more economical. For straight reach at 80 feet without articulation, the JLG 800S gives more horizontal outreach at a lower price than the 800AJ. The choice between them depends on access geometry.

At the top of the articulating class, the JLG 1250AJP extends articulating boom capability to 125 feet. That machine handles the jobs where the 800AJ does not reach high enough. We fund the 1250AJP through the same program, though documentation requirements scale with the ticket size.

Common Questions

Can I finance an 800AJ alongside an 800S telescopic in one transaction?

Multi-machine transactions are common. Two machines together might total $200,000 to $350,000, which sits within the short-doc range. We structure multi-unit deals regularly and can handle different makes and models in the same package.

How does the heavy weight of the 800AJ affect eligibility compared to lighter machines?

Machine weight does not directly affect financing eligibility. We underwrite the business, the deal price, and the machine's market value. The 800AJ's 43,000-pound weight is a transport and site consideration for you, but not a financing variable for us.

The 800AJ I want is being sold by an auction house. How do I handle the timing?

Auction purchases require fast action. Most auction houses want payment within 24 to 48 hours of the hammer falling. Contact us before the auction to pre-qualify. With pre-approval in place, we can fund quickly once you win the lot.

Can I get a sale-leaseback on an 800AJ I already own outright?

Yes. We evaluate the machine's current market value, agree on a purchase price with you, and execute the leaseback. You keep the machine working and the cash goes to the business. Leaseback terms typically run 36 to 72 months.

My credit score is 605. Is there any chance of approval on an $115,000 800AJ?

A 605 with solid bank statement cash flow is a fundable profile in most cases. We look at the monthly deposits, the consistency of revenue, and the overall financial picture alongside the score. B credit applicants clear regularly at deal sizes like this.
